I originally wrote this song in 1989 for my father while taking a songwriting class at Brigham Young University. It was my final project for the class. Later, my husband recorded it for our daughter and she is the one in the original video. Recently, our daughter got married. The song felt like it needed a 3rd verse as well as some revising. So I rewrote the song and added a third verse about her wedding. Laurent was able to sing it to her at the family dinner the night before she was married. We were all touched as he sang the words that expressed his feelings for his little girl. I was grateful because my father was also present and was able to hear the new song that was originally written for him.

Daddy's Little Girl
Building blocks and bubbles, Little dolls with auburn hair. Dainty socks and ruffles, Barbie dolls and Teddy bears. Your little world is happy, sheltered from the bad. Life consists of Mommy, and is filled with hugs for Daddy's little girl. You will be always be my little girl. Sit-ting on my knee. Even when you're grown with children of your own, In my heart I'm holding your hand, And I whisper, "You're my Daddy's little girl." Hugs turn into phone calls, With a chat a-cross the miles. Pictures on your dorm walls Showing loved ones and their smiles. Your little world is changing, with new ideas each day. And yet you reassure me you will still re-main my Daddy's little girl. You will be always be my little girl. Sit-ting on my knee. Even when you're grown with children of your own, In my heart I'm holding your hand, And I whisper, "You're my Daddy's little girl." Wedding lace and roses, Tiny jewels in your hair. A veil that skims your shoulders As you glance to find him there. I gently kiss your fore-head. I wish it had the pow'r To keep you small forever and to crown you now as Daddy's little girl. You will be always be my little girl. Sit-ting on my knee. Even when you're grown with children of your own, In my heart I'm holding your hand, And I whisper, "You're my Daddy's little girl." You will always be my little girl. Sitting on my knee my little girl. You'll always be my little girl. |
