I began this song in May of 1987 when I was a senior in high school, but never published it. Recently, I was called to work on our stake Book of Mormon Journey youth conference and remembered the song. They asked to have some youth perform it for the opening fireside. Well, it needed a LOT of revision. Quickly I made changes, rewrote the verse, and completely wrote a new accompaniment. The message is still the same, however. The prophets of the Book of Mormon wrote important scripture for our day that will lead us to Christ and ultimately home to our Heavenly Father. Their words "cry from the dust" to help us find answers from God.
Cry From the Dust

Are you ever unsure what to believe?
With so many voices clammoring in confusion?
Do you ever feel the desire to find peace?
In this swirling chaotic world of commotion?

Well, our Father planned a way to lead us home.
In the words of ancient prophets who saw our day.
They were written by the spirit and preserved,
To guide us to the One who is the way.

Their words shall cry from the dust
To help me find the truth
Of Christ and His gospel
To help me make it through.
As Nephi of old, I'll hold on to the rod.
By reading the scriptures I'll find answers to God.
