I Know He Loves Me

In July of 2019, I was involved in the dramatizations of scenes from the Book of Mormon for our stake youth conference. One of my favorite experiences was the visitation of Jesus Christ to the Nephites. That night we felt the Spirit testifying to us of Christ's love for us. It was an amazing experience to think about what it would have been like to be a Nephite and be able to see Christ in person and feel the prints in His hands and feet.
After we retired to our beds, I suddenly had the first few lines of the chorus run through my head! Since the other youth leaders were asleep, I got out my flashlight and quietly wrote the lines down. Then I laid my head back down on my pillow. But then, a few more lines came into mind. I turned on my flashlight and wrote them down. As I began to write, I remember thinking, "Now how am I going to find a rhyme for that line?" and then the next line came. "Oh, that's how it's going to go." Eventually, I had the whole chorus and could hear the melody in my head. I was so worried I would forget the music by morning and didn't have a way to be able to figure out the notes until mornings. I don't have the gift of automatically knowing note names just from hearing them, so I wrote a kind of notation of up and down with the melody, to help me remember it. And then I prayed that I would remember it in the morning. Well, Heavenly Father made sure I remembered it, because it ran through my brain all night long! The verses took a it more labor and work, but eventually they came. I only had a couple of weeks to get it ready before we would need to practice it with the youth choir for the closing fireside. Fortunately, it worked out and the youth were able to sing it. I'm grateful for the experience at youth conference, and the message the Spirit taught me while writing this song. Christ loves us and knows each one of us. He visited the Nephites after His resurrection and blessed each one of them. One day He will return and we look forward to that day! |
I Know He Loves Me
He came. Near the temple walls. I saw my Lord appear and bid me come to Him in love. I took a step, but paused in awe. How could He love me still and know how deeply I was flawed? He reached toward me. I touched His hands. I saw the scars of pain He bore with a love I could not understand. In gratitude and reverence sweet. I dropped down to my knees and softly worshiped at His feet. Chorus: I know He loves me. I know He lives. I know He came to earth and He will come again. He is my Savior. Through Him I am redeemed. I know He loves me. And I love Him. I have not seen my Savior dear. Nor touched His hands and feet, But I believe and feel His presence near. I hear His voice. It stirs my soul. And testifies He died for me. Though broken, I'll be whole. And so with faith, I await the day. He'll come to earth again and i will see Him face to face. In gratitude and reverence sweet. I'll drop down to my knees and softly worship at His feet. Together we testify of the Messiah Christ our King. He conquered sin and death for all. Let us praise Him. Let us sing! Alleluia, He's the Son of God, the Way the Mighty One. Our Deliverer, Hope and Peace, The Word, the Lamb of God. We know He loves us. We know He lives. We know He came to earth and He will come again. He is our Savior. Through Him we are redeemed. We know He loves us. And we love Him. We love Him. We love Him. |
